Miyako Shichifukujin (Seven Deities of Good Fortune in Kyoto) (都七福神)
Miyako shichifukujin are stamp places for pilgrims to visit seven deities of good fortune, which consist of seven temples and shrines in Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture. It is said that a custom of visiting shichifukujin started in Kyoto, and it has a long history.
Summary
It is assumed that the first shichifukujin faith started in Kyoto during the Muromachi Period, and then it had gradually spread all over Japan. All the deities, except Ebisu (the Deity of fish and commerce), are originated in China and India. It is believed that good fortune will be brought by visiting them during New Year's Holidays. On the seventh day of every month, a festival of shichifukujin is held.
